Our family is moving later this week – that’s a story for another email.
There is a lesson I learned the hard way during this process though that I wanted to share.
Although, truth be told, I doubt you’ll learn this lesson simply by reading about it.
That’s because this is the kind of lesson you likely need to live through before accepting what you had been told (and deep down knew to be true).
I have more than one example of this lesson – I wrote about it in regards to letting go of my exciting idea around a second podcast.
And here it is again – the lesson that needs to be learned the hard way.
This time? This time it has to do with my Fitbit.
My band broke and it’s not the kind that can be replaced.
This is actually the second time I had a problem with the band – the first time it was under warranty and they sent me a replacement watch. Which was great.
When the band started to tear again, I tried several home remedies to keep the watch on my wrist.
When those failed, I committed to buying another watch.
My wife pointed out that the band had twice failed on me and suggested I consider getting a different kind of watch.
But I had grown really attached to the version I had been wearing day and night for a couple of years and I wasn’t ready to move on.
My version was not being sold in stores anymore – so I headed to Facebook Marketplace to see if anyone was selling one.
I wouldn’t have ordinarily thought of Facebook Marketplace as a resource, but we’ve been sourcing a lot of items for our new home through it.
As I had hoped, there WAS someone selling my exact watch for not a lot of money.
I mapped out the distance to her home – it was going to be nearly an hour in traffic.
An hour.
But I was committed, so off I went – and what do you think I discovered as soon as I saw the watch?
The band had already started to tear.
Lesson finally learned. It is time to find a new watch style.
Your Challenge For This Week
Think about a time you had to learn this lesson the hard way.
Perhaps you’re in the middle of this lesson right now?
What can you learn from my story or your personal experience that you can apply to your own situation?
It might be time to let go of an idea you’ve been holding onto and really hear the advice you’ve been given by people you trust.
Try this and let me know how it goes.
Business Growth Strategist & Business Coach
As a relationship-based business growth strategist, I work directly with a limited number of self-employed professionals, aka solopreneurs.
WHO YOU ARE:
You want to have a greater impact and increased income. The problem is that there are so many options for how to build your business that you can feel stuck, overwhelmed, and like you’re running out of time.
The reason options are overwhelming is that you’re looking at them as a series of disconnected steps, when to make the most of your time, you need a strategy that connects only the most important and highest impact ones.
You know that if you try to do everything, you’ll accomplish nothing. This means, to achieve your goal, you have to invest in a strategy to put time on your side.
What’s Included:
As a relationship-based business growth strategist, I will work with you to design a year-long plan that consists of three 12-week sprints, each followed by 4 weeks of reflection/assessment, rejuvenation/vacation, and strategic planning. This will allow you to sequence your goals, create momentum, and leverage your limited time.
We can build your plan through a half-day strategy session, a coaching engagement, or a mastermind program.
